Our Beliefs

As a local church, we are part of a larger family called The Foursquare Church. The word foursquare means forthright, straightforward, without compromise, which is how we seek to communicate the essential message of Jesus called the gospel -- the good news. The Rivers' Core Values

1. Every person is valuable to God, and He has real answers for all our needs: Spiritual, emotional, intellectual, physical, relational and financial. (Phil 4:19, Is. 61:1-3, 2 Cor. 9:8)

2. Jesus Christ is the ultimate answer from God, and through a relationship with Him we will let go of destructive behavior and attitudes and grow to become the healthy, fulfilled person God always intended us to be. (2 Pet. 1:3, 2 Cor. 5:17, Eph. 4:17-5:20)

3. The Holy Spirit has placed in every believer special gifts and abilities to creatively share God's love, mercy, power and joy with others especially people who don't know Him. (Rom. 12:6-8, 1 Cor. 12:4-11, Eph. 4:8-13)

4. The Bible is the handbook for life, and that reading and joyfully obeying what God tells us will result in radical change that starts on the inside and shows in our lifestyle. (Heb. 4:12-13, Mt. 4:4, Lu. 11:28)

5. Every person grows best when they know they are loved and accepted just as they are, and can admit their struggles and problems without fear of being rejected. (Mt. 7:1-5, Lu. 6:37-38, Jas. 5:16)

6. That God is gathering all of us together on this team called The Rivers, and that each person has an equally important role in bringing God's hope and healing to our community. We are a gift-based, volunteer-driven church. (Eph. 4:11-16, 1 Cor. 12:24)

7. God deserves our best in everything we do, and serving Him with excellence is the most rewarding thing we can do with our lives. (Mt. 6:33, Num. 18:29)

8. God is worthy of unrestrained, heartfelt worship, and He wants us to express our love to Him with enthusiasm, laughter, tears, and a sense of wonder. (John 4:24, Ps. 98:4-9, Heb. 12:28-29)

9. The most effective evangelism is personal, and that through caring relationships and personally inviting people to a service or Home Group, they can be won to Christ. (Mk. 12:30-31, Mt. 5:14-16, Mt. 28:19-20)

10. God wants us to break down every barrier and any division caused by differences in culture, race, ethnicity, gender, or financial status so we can become a diverse family united by our love for Christ and each other. (Col. 3:11, Gal. 3:26-28, Eph. 2:14-15)
